New changes!

We have some changes happening at Muro Carson.  Nicole was offered a wonderful position as a co-photographer with Frank Carnaggio and will be pursuing that endeavor for the forseeable future.  Amy continues her own personal photography as Amy Carson Photography.

What does this mean for you?  We will continue to serve our living social customers diligently and happily and will continue working occasionally together, but with Nicoles amazing new opportunity, she will be off learning and working with Frank and continuing to further her photography career.  Amy has a wonderful portrait, fashion and wedding photography business of her own and will continue building her relationships with her clients as well.

Sometimes things come along that are too good to pass up and this was one such opportunity for Nicole as she had always admired Franks work.  We both continue being great friends and are extremely happy for each others success!!

Q. What is Bare Minerals?

A: Bare Minerals is a makeup is a line of mineral-based makeup which was developed by the cosmetic company Bare Escentuals. It is completely natural and preservative-free foundation. The foundation doesn’t contain talc, fragrance or oils makeup it great for sensitive skin. It also has no binders or fillers making it completely weightless.

Q. How is Bare Minerals different from traditional liquid foundation?

A: Bare Mineral foundation is in the form of a powder making it feel weightless on the skin. With liquid foundation there are so many variations. Some are more full coverage and some are very sheer like a tinted moisturizer. Most liquid foundations are heavier on the skin and sometimes don’t cover well or leave streaks on the skin. Don’t get me wrong I love some liquid foundations but they have to be right for your skin type.

Q. Can I use it as a concealer?

A: Yes you can. They also make a great concealer as well it is called “Bisque”. I use original bisque as I am very fair but they make it in a few shades for your skin tone. Sometimes when I am in a hurry, I use the concealer brush with my foundation and put it under my eyes. I don’t have any dark circles but it helps to brighten my under eyes up. The bisque is great for hard to cover areas like the under eyes and acne spots or scars.

Q. Does Bare Minerals have good coverage?

A: Yes it actually does give great coverage. I have great skin but I have Rosacea, which is redness in the skin. Also, it causes small broken capillaries which are a huge part of Rosacea. I am a very picky person about foundation and I LOVE Bare Minerals. It completely covers the redness in my skin but still leaving me looking natural with a glow. It is also great because the coverage is buildable.

Q. How long does it last, how often do you have to replace?

A: I wear mine almost everyday and I have had mine for a good 3 months. The good thing about minerals are they are naturally anti-bacterial.  I have heard before that there is no shelf life but check the packaging. If your not sure smell the product and if it smells bad throw it out. Also, if you feel it is working the same as when you first got it then throw it out.

Q. Does it work well in the humidity or when sweating?

A: It has a very long lasting staying power. For those of you who know me I am always hot and it stays on me all day long. It even lasts through sweat. It doesn’t say it is water proof but it has a great staying power. I would give it a good solid 8 hour wear.

Q. How does it work with oily skin?

A: Personally I have dry skin so I don’t know the exact answer to this one. I do know that originally Bare Minerals only had their original formulation and now they have a Matte formulation. I actually have both but I prefer the original formulation for my skin type. The original formulation gives a more dewy finish whereas the matte  formulation leaves your skin with no shine or dewy finish at all. That is what is great about the sample pack because it gives you a sample of the matte and the original formulations.

Q. Is it worth the extra cost?

A: Honestly, it isn’t much different then any high end brand of foundation. Is it more than department store brand makeup? Yes. It is around $28 for the full size foundation. You have to remember that a little goes a long way and you get what you pay for. It is a great product and well worth the money.

Q. Does it rub off your skin onto your clothes?

A: Yes and No. It really depends on what you mean. The product does not say that is waterproof. Only waterproof or non-transferable products won’t transfer to clothing. Obviously, if you are careful with your clothing and you aren’t rubbing it across your face you should be fine. Like I always say, you have to remember it is makeup and it will come off.

Q. Is it good for your skin?

A: Yes it is. It is very good actually. It is so pure that you can actually sleep in it and it won’t clog your pores. I tend to take my good skin for granted and I don’t always wash my face before I go to bed at night so I love this product. I love that if I do fall asleep with it on,  it won’t be bad for my skin.

Overall, I really think you will love this product if you give it a shot. I was very apprehensive about trying it because of my dry skin, but now I love it.  It is so fast and easy to put on too. xo, Jackie

Alexa + Joey

This past weekend my little sister, Alexa, married the love of her life, Joey, and Amy and I had the pleasure of documenting it! I couldn’t be more honored that my sister and Joey chose us to photograph their wedding day:-) Joey and Alexa’s love story began in high school. They met through attending the youth group at Kingwood, the church where they were married. The bond between the two of them was instant, and we knew these two would one day end up together, forever. I admire their relationship in so many ways. Just by observing the two of them together for five minutes, it is plain to see the love, respect, and passion they have for one another. They are completely and deeply in love. Their relationship and marriage is truly blessed, and I am positive God had a hand in orchestrating the union of these two… they are so perfect for one another! Joey is one of the most genuine, insightful, and caring people I have ever met, and I will rest easy knowing my little sister has found her soulmate. Congratulations to you both and we couldn’t be more happy to have you in the family Joey! Hope you guys are having an amazing time on your honeymoon!!!!

Seriously, a PERFECT match! They are so obviously in love, and fully deserve each other. You could feel the love all the way around. There wasn’t a dry eye during the ceremony! Thanks to Mallory Melichar for assisting and helping shoot!

Happy Wednesday everyone, Amy here sharing something for the photographers out there.  Editing images from sessions is the part of the process that takes the longest.  Through trial and error, I have found something that simplifies that process and gives me more time back in my day.  When I am going through my sessions to cull (select the images I want to give the client) and edit, I mainly only use Adobe Lightroom. This has been the most amazing tool I’ve ever used and it has changed my process completely. It took me a little bit to get used to, but after I did I never looked back. Since starting with lightroom, I’ve worked out a workflow that works perfectly for me. I can edit an entire wedding in about 4 solid hours (thats around 350 – 700 edited images people!)

I wanted to share my simplified workflow as a kind of kickstart for those of you that dont currently use it. I wrote this up for a friend and decided it might be beneficial to others! This works for me, it may not work for you, but I wanted to share anyway 🙂 Please feel fre to leave feedback about it – how you use lightroom, what you think I might do differently, etc. I’d love to hear what you think!

On to the workflow!

Once you have copied your images from your memory cards to your hard drive, open lightroom and select file->import photos. This will give you a selection box where you can select the images to import.

Once you’ve imported your images, all the corrective options are in the ‘Develop’ menu seen below.

Down at the bottom of the screen, you can see your filmstrip of all your imported images. To cull through these images, use the button ‘p’ for ‘p’icking the picture and ‘u’ for ‘u’npicking if you accidentally pick an image you don’t want to be picked. Once you are done culling, use the filter above the filmstrip to select ‘flagged’ photos only. These will be all the images you ‘picked’. See below.

During editing, you can use the nomal tools for correcting white balance, exposure, contrast etc. there are some special tools like the adjustment brush that allows you to paint certain sections with different settings. See below. (you can increase the size of your brush by scrolling the wheel on your mouse up or down, or use the sliders)

There is also a heal/clone tool which you can select individual spots for correction like you would in photoshop. See below

Once you’re done with everything, select all the flagged photos either by doing a command+a while in the filtered mode or by selecting edit->select flagged photos. After they’ve been selected go to file->export photos. In that selection screen that pops up, you can specify numbering, output location, quality, sharpening, watermarking, etc.

Hope you enjoyed it, maybe learned a little something – Happy Lightrooming!!
